Disney World Orlando

What is Disney World?  That's a really good place to start because if you've never been before then the chances are this is the highest on your list of things to do, but you don't know quite what it is.  Basically it's a huge resort which we're told is about the size of greater Manchester!  Unfortunately it's not all filled with rides – imagine that!

Instead you have 4 different theme parks, 2 water parks, an evening entertainment district, a huge sports ground, and dozens of hotels.  They are all linked by a series of main roads, but you can get from one to another very easily because there is a regular bus service.  Don't worry, there's not much hanging around, they're a lot more efficient than over here!  There is also a monorail between some parks and a river boat.

The theme parks are :

There are also the highly rated water parks:

That's not all though, Disney World Florida also features a shopping, dining and entertainment zone called Down Town Disney.  This is home to the fantastic Cirque du Soleil (not included in the price, but tickets are widely available in the UK), DisneyQuest, which is an indoor park full of virtual reality machines and Pleasure Island which is home various bars and night clubs.

Finally, there is also Disney's Wide World of Sports, which caters for an unbelievable range of activities, but is really not worth visiting unless you are going to watch an event, and in which case you will most likely have to book and pay locally.  One thing to mention is that it is not possible to book tickets for any sports event through any UK companies, so you would need to contact Disney directly for this.

The popular Character Breakfasts are mostly only available to book directly through Disney also, and you can do this up to 6 months prior to your preferred date.  However, there are some UK companies offering tickets packaged with a limo transfer from your hotel.  This is great if you are not staying at Disney and really adds an extra bit of excitement, but if you are already staying on Disney property, then it is best to book direct.

Our Rating System is made up of 10 key performance indicators.  Here's why:

  • Brand Recognition – Are they well-known or a new-comer to the field
  • Brochure – Can you have a good flick through with a cup of Tea?
  • Website – All have them, but will you be whizzing though or reaching for a hammer!
  • Customer Service Standards – Low prices are all well and good, but are you going to get support when you need it and after splashing so much cash, when are you going to get your paws on the tickets?
  • Ticket / Park Knowledge  - Is somebody just trying giving you the hard sell or are you getting some informed advice about what is best for your holiday?
  • Real Tickets/ Vouchers – We really recommend avoiding vouchers for the major parks.  In peak seasons you can be waiting hours to exchange these for real tickets.  You need to also be sure that the voucher is good and can be exchanged.
  • Price – This will perhaps be the main driving factor and understandably so.  But do remember for the sake of a couple of quid here and there, you can sometimes get better advice, quick delivery and maybe even a few extra's thrown in!
  • Fees / Hidden Extras – As above.  Does the company you're booking with include any?
  • Delivery Times – Again, as mentioned above.  How long till you have the tickets in your hand.  If you're travelling at the last minute, it's always best to call ahead and check that the tickets are in stock.
  • Opening Times  - Want to speak to someone before parting with your money.  This lets you know who's open and when
